What I Made

In Game Layout
The main goal wasn't just to recreate aesthetics, but to design a layout that was similar to Balatro while fitting the gameplay of Monopoly.
To the left is where the player rolls their dice, can view their properties, and pause the game. Button sizes were determined by how much players interacted with them.
I included many other animations to enhance game feel and swapped color pallets to reinforce player's changing turns.

The task of this college project was to recreate the 2008 EA version of Monopoly. I took that framework and created it with the aesthetic and feel of 2024’s Balatro . This meant taking the menu layouts of Balatro and repurposing them to fit Monopoly's gameplay while also making original layouts not seen in Balatro.
In no way do I claim ownership of the game Balatro or Monopoly.
Overview
Postmortem
Since this was my first big project, I learned a lot. From a UI design perspective, not wireframing nor flowcharting made the process longer as most of my prototyping and design work was originally done in Unity. Making changes was cumbersome, as a result. My scripts tying everything together were bloated, they weren't built modularly, leading to constant script adjustments.
Despite those issues, I still came out with a product to be proud of. All the research I did into not just Balatro but UI design led to my passions as a designer now. I took all I learned on this project forward, leaving me with work I'm more proud of.
